Salt Lake City
Salt Lake City (population ~220,000) is the gateway to the Wasatch Front climbing corridor — a chain of canyon crags running 60 miles along the mountains immediately east and south of the city. The Beckey Route at Storm Mountain is 30 minutes from downtown. American Fork Canyon is 40 minutes. The city has world-class dining, full hotel infrastructure, SLC International Airport, and car rental at the terminal. It is the most logistically convenient base for Utah climbing of any kind.

Restaurants
| Name | Specialty | Price | Address | Tip |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Red Iguana | Mexican with seven famous mole sauces — the best restaurant in SLC by consistent consensus | $12-22 | 736 W North Temple, Salt Lake City, UT 84116 | Make a reservation — Red Iguana is consistently SLC's most popular restaurant. The mole negro and mole coloradito are exceptional. Order the tamale as a starter. |
| Lone Star Taqueria | Local Mexican: excellent burritos, fish tacos, and salsa verde | $8-15 | 2265 E Fort Union Blvd, Salt Lake City, UT 84121 | Smaller and quicker than Red Iguana. Better for a fast post-climb meal when you are too tired for a full sit-down. The carnitas burrito is the move. |
| Bruges Waffles and Frites | Belgian liege waffles, frites with real aioli, and strong coffee | $7-14 | 336 W 300 S, Salt Lake City, UT 84101 | The pre-climb breakfast of choice for SLC climbers. Open early, fast service, and the waffles hold energy for hours. The maple bacon waffle is the classic. |
| Pago | Upscale farm-to-table American — exceptional for a celebration dinner | $20-38 | 878 S 900 E, Salt Lake City, UT 84105 | The best dinner option in SLC for a post-summit splurge. Seasonal menu, excellent wine list, and a warm room. Book ahead. |
